San Diego Comic Con 2017 Wrap Up

This week we come to you once more with two Four Color Television columns, our regularly scheduled Wednesday column will pick up where we left off last week in our exploration of how alike our TV heroes are to their comic book counterparts by looking at characters from Legends of Tomorrow.  Today though is our San Diego Comic Con wrap up, where we’ll look at all the really cool Four Color film and TV news you might have missed in the deluge of SDCC content.

First up we’ll look at the news from our evergreen content source: the DC CW Television shows...

Supergirl Season 3 – Premiere’s October 9th 2017

Who is Supergirl without Kara Danvers? Season 3 premieres October 9 at 8/7c on The CW. SUBSCRIBE: http://go.cwtv.com/YTSubscribe About SUPERGIRL: SUPERGIRL is based on the DC character Kara Zor-El, Superman's cousin, who after 12 years of keeping her powers a secret on Earth, decides to finally embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.

An issue of Four Color TV closer to the release of the season is going to explore all of this in much greater detail, but here are some of the fun little tidbits we now know about the upcoming Season 3.

- Laura Benanti has been replaced as Kara’s mother Alura by Erica Durance, best known for her role as Lois Lane on the WB/the CW’s long running Smallville.

- Heroes’ Adrian Pasdar is joining the series as evil businessman/Cat Grant foil Morgan Edge.

- The amazing Carl Lumbly – otherwise known as the voice of Martian Manhunter on Justice League Unlimited will be appearing during Season 3 as Martian Manhunter’s father M’yrnn J’onnz.

- Callista Flockhart will be appearing more frequently than in Season 2.

- The upcoming season will focus on the Kryptonian villain Reign who was genetically engineered to be a perfect killing machine.

Labs Particle Accelerator explosion, a dark matter lightning storm strikes Central City C.S.I. Barry Allen, bestowing him with super-human speed.

- Barry Allen will not return right away, instead we will spend a little time with Wally West’s Kid Flash protecting Central City with Cisco Ramon’s Vibe.

- Neil Sandilands from CW’s The 100 has been cast as season villain The Thinker

- Season 4 will feature the first appearance of classic DC hero Ralph Dibney aka The Elongated Man

- Danny Trejo will make an appearance as a bounty hunter from Earth 19 and father to Cisco’s would be girlfriend Gypsy.

Legends of Tomorrow – Premieres October 10th 2017

Legends never die. DC's Legends of Tomorrow premieres October 10 at 9/8c on The CW! SUBSCRIBE: http://go.cwtv.com/YTSubscribe About DC'S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW: The Legends continue their new mission to protect the timeline from temporal aberrations - unusual changes to history that spawn potentially catastrophic consequences. When Nate, the grandson of J.S.A.

- Wentworth Miller will return as Captain Cold, and Neil McDonough will be a recurring villain this season.

- The 3rd season will feature the Legends lovable losers going against Rip Hunter’s new group of Time Masters who are now the best and the brightest.

Arrow – Premieres October 12th 2017

A hero's duty never ends. Arrow premieres October 12 at 9/8c on The CW. SUBSCRIBE: http://go.cwtv.com/YTSubscribe About ARROW: After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the South China Sea.

- Don’t expect the mystery of who died in the explosion to last that long, but we are getting teases that this season will give us a lighter and more comic accurate version of Oliver Queen.  I will believe that when I see it.

- Manu Bennet will make multiple appearances as Slade Wilson, even getting a two-part flashback episode devoted to his character.

- Katie Cassidy returns as a series regular in the form of Earth 2 Laurel aka Black Siren.

- David Nykl WILL return as Anatoly with a vendetta against Oliver.

- Character actor Michael Emerson has been cast in a recurring role (and my fingers are crossed for the Vic Sage version of The Question.)

Marvel’s The Defenders – Premieres August 19th 2017

Blind ninja. Smart-ass detective. Bulletproof ex-con. Kung Fu billionaire. Marvel's The Defenders centers on four outsider heroes that have to put aside their personal issues and come together when a villainous sect threatens to destroy New York City as we know it. The Netflix original series launches globally on August 18, 2017.

We are just a few weeks away from the premiere of the highly anticipated crossover series.  Keep your eyes on this space for our MARVEL TAKEOVER – five straight days of nothing but Marvel here at the Four Color Ark beginning on Monday August 14th we’ll look at the Netflix shows; Marvel comic books; and maybe even some corners of the MCU.

- As for SDCC news, I think the biggest piece is that the mildly disappointing Iron Fist has a new showrunner for Season 2 in the form of Raven Metzner of Sleepy Hollow fame.

- Joining Season 2 of Iron Fist will be Luke Cage character Misty Knight.

- DC Animated has announced a film slate that includes: Gotham by Gaslight, The Suicide Squad, and a two part Death and Return of Superman.

- The big news of course was the release of the Justice League Sneak Peek footage:
