Sunshine's Top 10 Most Anticipated Albums of 2018

A New Year means a new batch of music to get excited for. Here are the 10 Albums I'm most looking forward to in 2018.

10. Chance the Rapper and Childish Gambino’s untitled project.

The only reason that this is so low on the list is for the reason that it is still in the rumor mill. We know that a project is happening but not really sure of the details around it. That being said, I cannot think of an album I would rather hear this year.

9. Superchunk’s “What A Time To Be Alive”

Release Date: February 16th

Superchunk is back for their 11th full length album. Almost entirely written between Nov ‘16  and February ‘17, we know that these Chapel Hill, NC natives have put together an album that documents their feelings toward the political climate of the time. Mac McCaughan says the record is, “about a pretty dire and depressing situation but hopefully not a record that is dire and depressing to listen to.”

8. Screaming Females’ “All At Once”

Release Date: February 23rd

The punk trio puts their 7th full length out through Don Giovanni Records and The 15-track effort is said to be the band's “most expansive and imaginative work to date.” Their previous outing, Rose Mountain, was a huge success and we are looking forward to the follow up. We’ve been lucky enough to get two singles from the new LP and we are loving what we hear.

7. La Dispute

Release Date: TBD

La Dispute recently posted on instagram a picture of them in the studio with the caption “Working on LP4…” and that gets our stoke levels raised a bit. This band has been tearing up the post hardcore scene over the last few years and with such a strong 3rd record in Rooms of the House, this spoken word punk band has a lot to live up to. We think they’re up for the challenge.

6. Senses Fail’s “If There Is Light, It Will Find You”

Buddy is back, this time with an album that he has completely owned the writing process on. We’ve gotten a few singles that cheat towards a lighter sound than his last two outings and if he lyrics match his twitter feed, you can expect an album filled with criticism of the current administration and hopes for a better world for his newborn child. Senses Fail has grown up a fair bit from their early days and we love the maturity in lyrics and sound that we are hearing from them.

5. Jack White’s Boarding House Reach

Release Date: March 23

One of our favorite guitarist is back at it again as he recently announced his new full length record and gave us two tracks off of the new album. Those close to the project have called it “terrain-crunching rock ‘n’ roll, electro and hard funk, proto punk, hip hop, and gospel blues.”

4. Frank Ocean

Release Date: TBD

This one is a little more hopeful but Frank Ocean has given a few hints on Tumblr that he’s had this record waiting in the wings and is just waiting for the right time to drop it. We want as much Frank Ocean music as possible so please let it be soon.

3. Arctic Monkeys

Release Date: TBD

Arctic Monkeys hit the studio back in September at a secret location. We don’t have much information as of yet but as tour dates are starting to get revealed, you can bet that an album announcement should be out in the near future.

2. Kanye West

Release Date: TBD

Things we know - Kanye has been recording in Wyoming trhoughout 2017. That’s it, but we loved The Life of Pablo and we are hoping that this is the year we get another album because you can say what you like about him as a person but his music is always impressive.

1. Justin Timberlake’s “Man of the Woods”

Release Date: February 2nd

Luckily for this one, we don’t have to wait to long. Man of the Woods is the much anticipated follow up from his modern and diverse 20/20 Experience. With two singles already out, we can tell that this is likely to be a divisive album as fans have ranged in opinion. That being said, I love the sound and I am thoroughly excited to hear the completed project!
